GIG: COMEDY ROCKS, Thursday February 14 at 7:30, World Cafe Live at the Queen

We’re not gonna mince a lot of words here.

We’re going to rock out on Valentine’s Day. And we’re doing it with our great friends Todd Chappelle and Shari Short. And we’re gonna do it at World Cafe Live at the Queen. And we’re gonna start at 7:30.

If Valentine’s Day is truly about love, then we will be in the right place, because we LOVE us some Todd and Shari. Todd is a one-of-a-kind comic musician who writes hilarious and often incredibly timely songs and parodies that are so clever you might miss how musically talented the guy is. Seriously, he’s one of our heroes. And Shari is a riotous comedienne and journalist with a wonderful routine. These folks are our sweethearts, and we cannot wait to join them onstage and cuddle with them afterwards.1

The mighty Gable Music Ventures first put this show together last fall, and not only did we have a ball, but we pretty much sold out the place. So please get your tickets now and join us. We promise that whether you’re single, on a first date, or getting ready to dump the person you’re obligated to spend Valentine’s Day with, we promise we won’t make the night awkward for you. It ain’t that kind of show.

It’ll be the best VD2 ever.

DEETS:
Who: Hot Breakfast! Todd Chappelle, and Shari Short.
When: Thursday, February 14th, 7:30.
What: COMEDY ROCKS! A night of comedy, music, and eggplant fries.
Where: World Cafe Live at the Queen, 500 North Market St., Wilmington, DE.
Cover: $8 + $2 service fee. Cheap!
Food & Drink: World Cafe has a full bar and a menu full of yummy noms. Arrive hungry.
Parking: There’s a pay lot right next to the Queen – it’s super easy and pretty cheap. Parking is free after 6:00 on around Market Street, but it ain’t always easy to find spots.

Love,
Matt & Ji11

1 We have been informed by our lawyers that cuddling is not included in the contract riders of Todd Chappelle and Shari Short. We are currently exploring our legal options.
2 Um…VD stands for “Valentine’s Day,” right?

They bring the comedy. We bring the ROCK. And maybe some pistachios.
They bring the comedy. We bring the ROCK. And maybe some pistachios.

Eight Million Thank-Yous

'The Rhino Crows at Dawn.' © 2013 Hot Breakfast. All Rights Reserved. Patent Pending.
‘The Rhino Crows at Dawn.’ © 2013 Hot Breakfast. All Rights Reserved. Patent Pending.

You guys are amazing. Seriously.

A little while ago, we asked for your help to get Hot Breakfast! nominated for the Seventh Annual 93.7 WSTW HOMEY AWARDS. The Awards are sponsored by Hometown Heroes, that wonderful show hosted by Mark C. Rogers that features music and in-studio performances by local artists. The first round of voting determined the final nominees in each category.

Thanks to all of our fans, our friends, and those who love and support local music, your pals Hot Breakfast! have been officially nominated for THREE Homey Awards!

  • EP of the Year (“Hot Breakfast!”)
  • Best Lead Singer (Jill “Breakfast!” Knapp)
  • Best Live Band

And not only that, but many of our favorite artists, from The Joe Trainor Trio to The Honey Badgers to Glim Dropper and many, many more have been nominated as well! You can check out the whole list by clicking here (yes, it’s a Facebook page, but you don’t have to be logged in to Facebook to see it, even though let’s face it, you probably are).

We are honored and delighted to be in such a crowd. The Delaware music scene is as vibrant and vital as ever, and it’s a thrill to be a part of it all.

The Awards Ceremony will be at World Cafe Live at the Queen on Friday, March 8, 2013. The Homeys have their own band of voters for this one, so we’re not asking you to do a thing – except to sit back, relax, and be proud for supporting local musicians and artists.

We’ve got great shows coming up, a full-length CD in production, and all kinds of great plans in the works. And none of it means a thing without you.

We cannot thank you enough. But that doesn’t mean we won’t try. We even wrote you a song.

Love,
Matt & Jill

VOTE in the WSTW HOMEY AWARDS

Most accurate T-shirt slogan ever.
Most accurate T-shirt slogan ever.

We know. Seriously, we do. You thought you wouldn’t have to endure another appeal for your vote for at least a couple weeks.1 Well, at the risk of conjuring up images of a bygone election…we feel your pain.

But this time, it’s different. It’s for real. It is on, Brothers and Sisters.

This time, we’re asking you to vote in the 2013 WSTW Homey Awards (the link goes to a Facebook Note that lists the categories and nominees you can choose from, but don’t worry, you don’t need a Facebook account to view it). This is where you get to vote for all your favorite Delaware musicians, bands, songs, albums, videos, rock hairstyles2, and pretty much anything else you can think of from this past year.

And as you most likely know, 2012 was an amazing year for Delaware music.

How do you do it? Simple. Just send an email to Homey (at) wstw.com with your picks between now and February 2nd, 2013. All of the categories, eligible albums, EPs, and songs are listed on that Facebook Note, but you don’t need Facebook to vote – and you can even add your own categories in your email. Because this is the preliminary round, you can pick up to five nominees in any category, but you only get one email entry per person… so make it good!

As hey, as it turns out, your pals Hot Breakfast! are eligible for this round’s voting! We’d love it if you’d consider us for:

  • EP of the Year (“Hot Breakfast!”)
  • Song of the Year (“Hole in Your Pants”)
  • Band
  • New Artist
  • Lead Singer (that’d be Jill Knapp)
  • Live Act
  • Comedy-Music Artist
  • Acoustic Dork-Rock Power Duo
  • Acoustic Punk Duo, although we kinda doubt these two categories will make the final cut

…and any other category where you think we deserve a nod!

If you’re very trusting (or just lazy), scroll down to the comment below and copy/paste that into your nomination email. See how helpful we are?

But tell you what, friends – even if you DON’T vote for us, we still want you to vote. There are so many wonderful musicians in Delaware – the original music scene here is as active, essential, and vibrant as ever – and this is a great way to show some love to your favorites. We are so indebted to WSTW’s Hometown Heroes for their wonderful focus on, and commitment to, Delaware music, and hosting these awards is a great way to give recognition to the many, many wonderful artists in the area.

So vote, won’t you? Again, in this preliminary round, you can vote for up to five artists/venues in each category. And all of them will love you and find you wildly appealing.

Why? Because VOTING IS SEXY, that’s why.

We are saluting.
We salute you.

Your fellow Americans,
Hot Breakfast!

* * * * * * * * *

1 We don’t really understand the election cycle. We just assume it’s always election season, just like it’s always basketball season.
2 “Rock Hairstyles” isn’t really a category. Although if it was, we’d probably pick Jill’s Dragonball Z look over Matt’s You Don’t Know Jack look.

Radio Spot: 1/16 and 1/19: In-Studio Guests on Y-Not Radio!

HEY! Wanna hear your favorite acoustic punk-dork-rock-power-duo perform live on the radio and chatter about all things dork? Well, now you can!

We are this week’s featured band on Y-Not Radio’s local music spotlight– how cool is that? This afternoon we headed out to their West Philly studio to chat with the mighty Josh T. Landow about how our new album is coming along, the virtues of Fig Newtons, and a little band history, too… and we even performed a few songs live for their sweet studio audience. It was a blast.

The show will debut this Wednesday, January 16 at 11am and later at 10pm and will replay on Saturday, January 19 at 8pm.

Since we were representin’ our fine state of Delaware, we were asked to curate a hand-picked playlist of some of our favorite music from our favorite Delaware bands (OK, one’s from Baltimore, but we met them at the Wilmo Rock Circus so we’ll let it slide). A teaser: When you tune in, you’ll be one of the first people on the earth to hear a track from Angela Sheik’s upcoming album, and you’ll also hear some great cuts from Brene Wilson, The Joe Trainor Trio, The Keefs, Rachel Schain, The Way Home, Me and This Army, Todd Chappelle, and Mean Lady. Woot!

How did we land such a sweeeeeeet gig?

Because we’re freakin’ Delaware’s premier acoustic punk-dork-rock power duo. That’s how.     (OK, really now.)

Because we were lucky enough to meet some big-wigs from the station (Josh T. Landow and Joey O) through our friend Rodney Anonymous. Among Mr. Anonymous’ many accomplishments and hobbies, Rodney also hosts a monthly industrial show on Y-Not Radio called Rodney Anonymous Tells You How To Live. A great conversation with Josh and Joey, a CD exchange, and an email or two later, and Hot Breakfast! is on the air telling the world about the vibrant music scene in Delaware! Ka-pow!

So… thanks, Rodney– we owe ya!

GIG: Bellefonte Cafe, December 21, 7:00PM until DOOMSDAY (or 9:30ish)

You. That’s right, YOU. (Photo (c) 2011 Joe Del Tufo.)

Doomsday.

DOOMSDAY.

Between the Mayan ealendar ending and devastating solar flares, it’s abundantly clear that the world will certainly end on December 21, 2012.

Or…not. Whatever. Either way, Hot Breakfast! is gonna celebrate with our annual End of the Year Concert at Bellefonte Cafe on Friday, December 21! We start the rocking at 7:00 and plan to carry on until Cthulhu smites us all (or until Donna, the super-cool owner of Bellefonte, kicks us out… think somewhere between 9 and 9:30).

We love, love, love the Bellefonte Cafe. A funky, independent restaurant in the funky town of Bellefonte, the Cafe serves wonderful homemade food (the guac is awesome, the black bean soup incredible, the sandwiches, the quesadillas – everything), has a full bar, is veg*n friendly, and fully supports local music with their anyone-can-play-here signup system. It’s one of the true treasures of Delaware. So even if you can’t make it to our show, please give them a visit sometime. It’s not a quick in-and-out kinda place (Donna’s usually the lone chef), but it’s a great place to be.

But if you CAN be there with us on the 21st, expect lots of rockin’, Hot Breakfast!-style. We’ll be digging deep into our catalog, and probably trotting out some new songs for ya. We’ll even bust out a few non-traditional Christmas tunes, including our single “An Idiot for Christmas,” which is currently included on the WSTW Hometown Heroes album Comfort, Joy, Love and Snow. And we’d love to see you.

So remember: Bellefonte Cafe (link goes to Google Maps), December 21, 7:00. The show is free – our gift to you. (However, there are tip jars, if you’d like to give us a gift in return.) See ya there.

Here’s a link to the event on Facebook, if that’s your thing: Woot!

DEETS:
Who: Hot Breakfast! and only Hot Breakfast!
When: December 21, 2012. 7:00 – 9:15ish, give or take
What: Our annual year-end concert!
Where: Bellefonte Cafe: 804 Brandywine Blvd, Wilmington DE 19809 (in the Bellefonte neighborhood)
Cover: None! It’s free! However, the band gets paid only via tips, so… take that as a hint. 🙂 Also, please buy food and drinks and show your servers the love.
Parking: Street only, but it’s easy!

Remember: when you think “end-of-the-world,” you think Hot Breakfast!

See you there!

Your pals,

GIG: Wilmo Rock Circus: Saturday Nov 24th, ALL FARKING EVENING

Who’s got four thumbs and will be ROCKING YOUR FACES OFF at the Wilmo Rock Circus 2012? Only Delaware’s PREMIER acoustic dork-rock power duo, that’s who!

(Uh, that’s us.)

Tickets are on sale now folks, and there’s no better place to enjoy a 20+ course ALL ROCK BUFFET than the Wilmo Rock Circus. It’s all the rock you can eat for $15, and we’ll be playing several sets throughout the evening because the Wilmo Rock Circus’ dork-rock needs are HIGH, and we live to serve.

All ages, all awesome. Get yer tickets! Get ’em while they’re hot!

This is a really cool pop-up festival that is reinforcing Wilmington’s status as a great and supportive indie-music town. All bands (up & coming bands and bigger regional bands like Lovebettie) get 30-minute sets, so in just a few hours you can get a sampling of the east coast’s rockin’est offerings; and with two stages pumping at once, you always have a choice around who you go hear. SWEET!

Because of our status as Delaware’s PREMIER acoustic dork-rock power duo (and, OK, probably because we don’t take up much space), our 30-minute set will be split up into three 10-minute groupings and also simulcast throughout the Queen (really!) for MAXIMUM BREAKFAST SATURATION.

If you’re a Facebook-type person, you might wanna take a moment to:

We’ll see you there!

Free Halloween download! (The Cowboy Outlaw)

OK, so get this.

We wanted to record a creepy song for Halloween and present it as a free download because we love you. We chose “The Cowboy Outlaw” by Brian Dewan because Jill is totally obsessed with him, and he also wrote “Wastepaper Basket Fire” which you’ve probably heard us cover if you’ve seen us live. He also created the interior album artwork for “In The Aeroplane Over the Sea” by Neutral Milk Hotel, if that means anything to you. (It’s one of our favorite albums of all time, no exaggeration.)

So Hurricane Sandy rolled in and made the power at Knappshack Studios all wonky, so we recorded and mixed/mastered it in a rush so we could get it to you before the electricity cut out. We even made a video of us recording it, but YouTube is doing site maintenance right now, so we can’t upload it. (It’s not that exciting anyway, really.)

In order for us to provide our version of this song as a digital download, we had to secure the rights to the song, just like we did for Kiss Off and Major Tom. Once we got that done, all we had left to do was upload it to this here website, write this blog post, and get the word out.

Ji11 was feeling benevolent so she copied/pasted the lyrics below for you, and while she did that, she had Googled to see if Brian Dewan had a video for the song. But instead of finding a video, she saw a Snopes article that mentioned the song. APPARENTLY IT IS BASED ON A TRUE STORY. How cool is that?!? We had no idea. Which makes the song even spookier. Yay!

So… here’s the song, and here are the lyrics below it. Enjoy! And have a happy and safe Halloween.

The Cowboy Outlaw
by Brian Dewan
From his (freakin’ amazing) album Tells the Story

Gather ’round my children, and I’ll tell a tale of woe
About a famous cowboy outlaw who lived a hundred years ago.
Today his soul at last is resting peacefully in hell
Though many years have passed away since through the gallows-trap he fell.

He was sitting propped up in a chair just after he was hanged
And they photographed his body as a distant churchbell rang.
A circus man was waiting with fifty dollars in his coat
And he bought the cowboy outlaw so he could have him in his show.

And very soon he was embalmed and toured from town to town
People paid to see the outlaw that they’d heard so much about
He stood before them with a pistol against a painted scene
The greatest cowboy outlaw that the world had ever seen

But in time he was forgotten and no one knew his name
And when he began to fall apart they took his booth away
They painted him with varnish and put a crown upon his head
Come and see the king of Egypt said the sign out front instead

And then one year the circus closed, the tents were packed away
And he was sold to an amusement park on Massachusetts Bay
He was sold for next to nothing and they packed him in the van
They thought they’d bought a dummy but they’d really bought a man.

He was sprayed a special color to help him look a fright
And they hung him from a gallows ‘neath an ultra-violet light
He hung there in a spookhouse for many, many years
As youthful faces passed him by in tiny railroad cars

Until one fine and fateful day in 1976
He fell down from the gallows when the hangman’s noose unhitched
His arm broke at the shoulder as he clattered to the floor
And the man who went to fix him was stunned by what he saw

And the teenage boys did holler, and the teenage girls did faint
When they saw the bone protruding from the varnish and the paint
A coroner came to serve him and ran a slew of tests
they found out who he was, in time, and laid his soul to rest

A hundred years have come and gone since he spoke his final words
I’m not afraid to die and leave behind this rotten world
So go and pull the lever hangman, now my race on Earth is run
And he thought his life was ended but it had only just begun

TONIGHT (10/21) from 8-10PM: We’ll be on the radio: 93.7 WSTW Hometown Heroes!

Super-quick:

Tonight (Sunday, October 21) from 8-10pm, we will be an in-studio on-air guest on WSTW’s Hometown Heroes along with our musical crush Todd Chappelle and funny-chick Shari Short.

WSTW is 93.7 on your FM dial for those of you in the DE listening area. If you’re out of radio range, you can listen live online (click this link for their online radio player), too.

You can also send us questions via text, and we’ll answer them on air– listen to the show for details. (Though if anyone asks us a breakfast-related question (“Are you serving pancakes?”) we will make fun of you for being horribly unoriginal.)

Or if you’re busy tonight (we understand!), you can listen to the archived show via podcast by clicking here. It usually takes a day for the show to get posted online, so if you don’t see it tomorrow, give it a few more hours.

Yay!

GIG: Friday, October 5, Joe Trainor Trio CD Release Party at the Queen

As our Cool Little Brothers and Sisters know, we’re big, big fans of our friends the Joe Trainor Trio. We played some of our first gigs with the hard-rockin’ piano-based trio, and to this day we seldom pass up a chance to see ’em play live.

But it’s not just about music. Joe Trainor, Kevin Niemi, and Jeff Dement happen to be three of our favorite people. We dine with ’em, we play with ’em, we hang and talk and laugh with ’em, and sometimes we’re even fortunate enough to make music with ’em.

Because we like them so much, you might wonder if we’re overhyping their music. You can rest assured this is not the case. The Joe Trainor Trio BRINGS IT, yo. They rock and they rock hard, but they bring melody, great lyrics, and incredible musicianship to their rock. One listen and you’ll be hooked.

This is why we’re proud to be opening for their CD release party on Friday, October 5th at World Cafe Live at the Queen on 5th and Market Street, Wilmington, DE, at 8:00. This’ll be your first chance to hear the new JT3 album, Twelve Stories, in its entirety and purchase your copy.

But before that happens – HOT BREAKFAST! will be rocking the house!! (Hey, it ain’t all about Trainor. I mean, they’re good and all, but c’mon.) We love playing at the Queen (we’re there a lot this fall!), and we can’t wait to melt some faces before Joe and the boys take the stage.

So be sure to be there by 8:00 to hear Hot Breakfast! Actually, we really recommend getting there early – say, 7:00 – and ordering some food. Particularly the eggplant fries, because Holy Cow, the eggplant fries.

Reservations are strongly recommended for this show. You can order your tickets online by clicking here, or you can call the Queen at (302) 994-1400.

The Joe Trainor Trio and Hot Breakfast! – melting faces together since…well…for quite a while now.

Love n’ ice cream sandwiches,

GIG: Podcamp East! Woot! Sept 29, 8:30AM in Wilmington, DE

Delware’s most vocal Wilmevangelist, the effervescent Ken Grant, has once again invited us to play an incredible show for amazing people at an ungodly hour of the day for rockstars. (It may sound like we’re complaining, but we’re not.)

This Saturday, September 29th, is Day 1 of PodCamp East, a 2-day social-media and online entrepreneurship conference happening right here in our small but mighty state of Delaware. PodCamps have been happening around the world since 2006 when there were just over 10,000 people using Twitter (now there are over 400 million– crikey!), and this year PodCamp Boston, PodCamp New Hampshire, PodCamp Philly, and PodCamp Delaware have joined forces and chose Wilmington as this year’s home. Pretty sweeeeeet.

And best of all– Ken Grant asked Hot Breakfast! to be the official emissary of dork-rock to the attendees. We’ll be kicking off Day 1 with about 30 minutes of dork-rock starting around 8:30am, and playing another set sometime before lunch, too. We’ll just basically play when Ken points at us.

You can still attend PodCamp East, but don’t do it just on our account! It’s only $20 for two full days of speakers, content, presentations, food, socializing and good timez. Also: Ignite Wilmington 7 is that night, too! (But we’re also playing at Rod Kim and Vince Cirino’s Very Public Birthday Bash at World Cafe Live at the Queen, so we’ll be there… and we hope you’ll join us there… but we won’t blame you if you go to Ignite Wilmington, either. Ji11 once presented at Ignite, so she knows how cool it is. No hard feelings. It’s cool to spread the love.

For more information about PodCamp East, go to their website. We’re not gonna recreate the wheel here.

Gig: Friday, September 14 at The Young Bean in Clayton, Delaware

Hot Breakfast! spends an awful lot of time hanging out up north…that is, if Wilmington and Philadelphia count as “north” to you. Sometimes we venture as far south as Bear, but that’s about it. We admit it: we’ve been missing out.

We plan to remedy that with two full sets at The Young Bean, a funky little coffeehouse in Clayton, Delaware, south of Middletown but north of Dover. And we cannot wait.

Why? Well, because we’re really excited to go somewhere new, for one. The Young Bean asked us to play and we’re thrilled they did – they’ve got a great tradition of live music, and we look forward to melting some new faces. We go on at 6:30 on Friday, September 14 and play through 9:00. No cover!

But mostly, we’re going because of the menu. Here, see for yourself. We’ll wait.

Back? Great. HOW GOOD DOES THAT LOOK? The coffees? The foods? Paninis? Hot chocolates? Bacon Cake? Once again…freakin’ Bacon Cake?

So please come on down (or up!) to The Young Bean on September 14. We’ll be the dork-rock power duo scarfing down bacon cakes in-between songs.

Yours,
Matt

Gig: Saturday August 25th: 12 hours of music to benefit MS research

Some of this is a reprint from last year’s event-related post. Why reinvent the wheel?

Multiple Sclerosis sucks. My sister has it. You don’t want it. Each year I try to do a little something to raise money for the MS Society; I’ll either Bike to the Bay, I’ll do the MS Walk, or during lazy years I’ll send ’em a check. This year, like last year, Hot Breakfast! will be donating our time and skillz by participating in a way-cool all-day music festival at a wonderful spot: Aqua Sol Restaurant.

If you haven’t been there before, Aqua Sol is pretty neat. It’s got foodie-quality food with a Cuban flair, really good drinks, and a South Beach vibe. It’s right on the water, and their giant deck is on the marina. It’s the perfect place to start the process of saying goodbye to summer. A mojito on the water? Don’t mind if I do!

There are two stages: An acoustic stage, and a main stage. Full bands play on the main stage, and acoustic acts play on the acoustic stage… except us. We’re thrilled that we get treated as a full band, so we’ll be playing a 45-minute set on the main stage starting at 7pm. (Note: Previous ads said we were playing at 7:30 and then 7:00… this has been moved! We’re now scheduled to go on at 6pm, assuming they run on time… which they may not be… but hey, it’s a relaxing day so we’re not gonna stress. Just have another mojito.)

This event is rain or shine. If it rains some crazy torrential downpour of doom, we’ll all head inside where they’ll have two stages set up. If it’s just a passing sprinkle, we’ll consider it a refreshing hose-down and we’ll stick it out until it passes.

You can buy tickets at the door ($20 per person, $35 per couple), or better yet: You can buy them cheaper if you buy them ahead of time by clicking here: http://musicextravaganza.ticketleap.com/living-with-ms/   See? We’re saving you a couple bucks.

Here’s the band lineup as we know it (freshly updated as of 8/24):

.45 RPM: 12:00 PM
John Nallie and Tommy Keith: 1:00 PM
Stump Junction: 1:30 PM
Chad Michael Jervis: 2:30 PM Katalyst: 3:00 PM
Johnny B: 4:00 PM
Joe Pettis Band: 4:30 PM
Frank Julian: 5:30 PM
Hot Breakfast: 6:00 PM (we play for an hour!)
BTJ: 7:00 PM
Joe Trainor Trio: 7:30 PM (they play for an hour!)

Raffle announcments: 8:45 PM
The Acoustic Jam: 9:00 PM
Barral House Blues: 9:30 PM
Jam: 11:00 PM

Here’s a link to the Facebook Page for the event— you don’t need a Facebook account to see it, just in case you want to learn more about the other sweeeeeet activities (poker! raffles!) happening as part of the event.

Bring sunblock, sunglasses, bug spray, and your appetite!

Hope to see you there! And I hope even more to see you there handing me a mojito with extra mint. 😉

GIG: August 18th, 8pm, Kennett Flash – The Openers of Comedy!

Earlier this year we had the pleasure of being the opening band for Better Than Bacon, a deeelightful comedy improv theater troupe at The Kennett Flash.  We got the gig because Todd Chappelle (their regular opener) was booked elsewhere that night.  It’s also come to our attention that comedy music duo Dave & Brian have also opened for Better Than Bacon and brought down the house, just as Todd does.

Todd, being a make-it-happen kinda guy, approached the Kennett Flash about an OPENERS OF COMEDY show featuring us, Todd Chappelle of course, and Dave & Brian, and the Flash jumped all over it. Woooot!

The Kennett Flash is a fabulous venue. It’s a sit-down-and-listen kind of place, so it’s more like a concert than a typical gig. People actually listen, which is a pretty decadent experience for performers. The Kennett Flash also serves light food (sammiches, munchies) and it’s a BYOB, so you don’t have to starve. Sweet!

We recognize that we’re definitely the least funny of the three acts– we don’t really consider ourselves musical comedians… we just have some dorky tunes that make people chuckle. But we’ve been known to be sincere, too. We’ll try to keep the sincerity down that night. Either way, you’re in for some MAXX LULZ, SRSLY, just with Todd and Dave & Brian alone. Consider us the gravy. We might sweeten the deal, but the main course is more than enough on its own.

The evening’s festivities start at 8pm. There is no opening band– we’re all opening for each other. (So get there on time, is what we’re saying.)

DEETS:

WHO: Todd Chapelle, Dave & Brian, and Hot Breakfast! trade sets for a night of comedy music
WHEN: Saturday, August 18th, 8pm
WHERE: The Kennett Flash– 102 Sycamore Alley, Kennett Square, PA 19348 484-732-8295.
TICKETS: Tickets can be purchased online for $12, or for $15 at the door.
PARKING: You can park in the teeeeeeeny lot behind the venue (it fills up fast), or you can park on the street.
FOOD: The Kennett Flash serves light fare– sammiches, snacks, drinks. It’s also a BYOB thing, but they do charge a corkage and a glass fee, so be prepared for that. There are about a zillion wonderful places to get dinner in Kennett Square, so if you’re looking for a bigger meal, get into town early.

Hope to see you there– it’s going to be a really fun (and funny!) night!

Your pal,

Ji11

The Internet, she provides.

This is why I love my friends and the Internet.

It started at the last time we played at the open mic night at Extreme Pizza. Admittedly, attendance was low, so it basically devolved into us and Todd Chappelle musically goofing off. Somebody (and I can’t remember who) made a Neil Diamond joke, and then Matt and Todd started doing Neil Diamond imitations. Jill was a blob in the corner, paralyzed with laughter for she is easily entertained.

A few weeks later, Todd posted this YouTube video:

Which of course is hilarious and made us die laughing, and only fueled the Neil Diamond fire.

Emails full of “TODAY!” were exchanged, and Matt tried to figure out what songs he might sing in the style of Neil Diamond as well. (We already do a cover of You Don’t Bring Me Flowers, but maybe we needed something else, right?)

The other day, Jill was sticking something on her trusty Google Calendar, and she had this thought, so she tweeted it:

In case you don’t know, the @boutell Jill referenced is none other than Tom Boutell, the guy who sorta invented half of the things you use everyday if you use a farking computer (the .png file format, Real Audio, the WWW FAQ, image mapping, ya know.). I’m honored to say he’s a really good friend of ours. 🙂

To which immediately Tom replied:

So we said…

And then 18 hours later, THIS HAPPENED:

So fellow nerds, dorks, and people who need about 73,000% more awesome in your Google Calendar, here’s what you do:

1) Install this add-on into Chrome, created by Tom Boutell
2) Shut down Chrome
3) Re-open Chrome
4) Open Google Calendar
5) Go to some date that is not today
6) Click your calendar’s “Today” button
7) Change your pants

I love the internet.

So… if you didn’t have a reason to come see us and Todd play this Friday night at Bellefonte Cafe, now you really do. That is, assuming you’re not going to see the Dead Milkmen play in Philly… because if you are, I totally don’t blame you for missing our show.

GIG: Thursday July 12, Comedy Night at Mojo Main – 7pm

Mojo 13’s little brother on Main Street in Newark, DE is called Mojo Main, and it’s where the old East End used to be. It has everything you liked about The East End, but nothing you didn’t… and much better food. This pleases me greatly.

They host a Comedy Night there every so often, and after seeing us ROCK at The Kennett Flash, Mr. Matthew Morgan (the host) asked us if we wanted to play a set at their event. We said “Oh, mais oui!” or something similarly METAL.

The night will be a combination of stand-up comedians and musicians trading off sets. We hope we go on late so we appear funnier as the audience gets mo’ drunker.

DEETS:
WHEN: Thursday, July 12 2012. The evening begins at 7pm, though I’m not sure what time we go on. Have a seat!
WHERE: Mojo Main. 270 East Main St, Newark, DE 19711
COVER: $5 if you’re over 21; $10 if you’re under 21.
PARKING: Private lot. Park in it.
FOOD: They have food. I don’t know what kind. I’m sure they have a menu, though.

We are hoping people don’t throw rotten vegetables at us. If they do, we will throw angry badgers at them. SO THERE.

See you there!

Your pal,
