GIG RESCHEDULED: Delaware Friends of Folk in Dover, DE is now March 23 at 7:30pm

Delaware Friends of Folk; the warmest people around.
Delaware Friends of Folk; the warmest people around.

Friends,

We just heard some very sad news: One of the board members of the Delaware Friends of Folk passed away very suddenly last night. We are absolutely heartbroken for his family, friends, and colleagues. We hadn’t met him yet, but we can already tell what an anchor he was for the regional folk music community.

(We are intentionally omitting his name until all of his family and friends are notified. Google spiders things very quickly.)

As you might imagine, the members of the Delaware Friends of Folk have chosen to cancel this month’s coffeehouse and reschedule it for March. The new date is Saturday, March 23rd, and the event will be otherwise unchanged: The doors will open at 7pm, Trini will remain the opening act and she will take the stage at 7:30pm, and we will begin playing at 8:30 and play for 90 minutes. The location won’t change, either. Our hearts will be a bit fuller, though. 🙂

We’ve updated the Facebook event, and we’ve edited the prior post about it to reflect the new dates and times. (For you techie types, we chose not to change that post’s permalink URL so no previously-made links break.)

Our hearts go out to all of the members and fans of the Delaware Friends of Folk and their families.

Give someone you love an extra hug tonight, OK?

Much love,

Matt and Jill <3

Hot Breakfast! Winter Blasto Email of Happiness (and Brevity)

Greetings, Hot Breakfast Compadres of ROCK, old and new!

If this is your first Hot Breakfast! newsletter – hey there! You are now officially part of the HB!COR, which stands for the Hot Breakfast! Compadres of ROCK.  It’s an elite group, and we are thrilled to have you on board.  Not to worry – we don’t send newsletters out very often; we respect your time as well as your inbox. And if you need to jump off the list, scroll to the bottom of this email to learn how, all with no hard feelings.

Anyhoo, at Kevin Regan’s request, we’re going to keep this blasto email short… otherwise he’ll make fun of us again. 🙂

Onward!

UPCOMING HB! SHOWS:

Sat Jan 12, 8pm:  Milkboy Coffee.  Our first show at Milkboy!  We’re super-excited about this show– it’s a prestigious gig, and we’re still pinching ourselves that we landed it.  As of right now, it looks like we’re the only band on the bill for that night, which means you get a full night of delicious, face-melting acoustic punk dork rock Hot Breakfast action!  And since we’re the only band on the bill, it’s up to us to pack the place.  Folks, this is the show to see in January– and we need your attractive selves there! Let’s show Milkboy that Hot Breakfast brings a crowd!  (Milkboy Coffee is located at 2 East Lancaster Ave, Ardmore, PA 19003.  Easily accessible by train, and there’s easy parking, too.  BYOB!)  You can find deets at our website here, or on Facebook here.  Please spread the word!

Sat Jan 19, 7:30pm (doors open at 7!): Delaware Friends of Folk Coffee House, Wesley College, Dover, DE. (With special guest, Trini.)  The Delaware Friends of Folk invited us to headline their wonderful monthly coffee house event.  It’s true, we’re not a folk band… and the good news is they’re not expecting us to act like one, either.  We cannot wait to melt some faces in Dover!  But since we’ve got a nice, long set to fill, we’ll be playing some of our deeper cuts and perhaps even a few slower tunes as well.  There is really something special about playing for a listening room.  More deets at our website here, or onFacebook here.  See you there!

Thurs Feb 14, 7:30pm: Comedy Night! with Todd Chappelle & Shari Short. World Cafe Live at the Queen, Wilmington DE.  This show pretty much sold out when we did this show in October, so we’re doing it again, but this time on Valentine’s Day!  Let’s be honest: Everyone hates having to come up with something creative and neat for Valentine’s Day, but we’ve solved the problem for you.  Take your posse to see the fabulous comedienne Shari Short, our favoritest comedy musician Todd Chappelle, and everyone’s dorktastic pals Hot Breakfast! for a Valentine’s Day night show… we promise we won’t make it awkward if you’re there with someone you’re not involved with.   At World Café Live at the Queen, 5th and Market Streets, Wilmington, DE. The show really does start at 7:30.  When you buy your tickets, don’t forget to also make a dinner reservation or you may not get a place to sit.

Sat Feb 16, 8-11PM: Hot Breakfast! at the Arts Quest Center, Bethlehem, PA.  We’ll have the whole night to ourselves, so you get three hours of Hot Breakfast! goodness in the Arts Quest Center’s Creativity Commons. There is so much to do in Bethlehem, from shopping, dining, galleries, and just walking around on a crisp night… and we’re excited to be playing in this beautiful space with wonderful acoustics and an even more wonderful view.  Spend an evening in Bethlehem, and while you’re there, come drop in for a set or two and a snack!  (101 Founders Way  Bethlehem, PA 18015)  No cover charge!

Fri Feb 22, 6:30 – 9PM:  Hot Breakfast! takes over The Young Bean!  Clayton, DE.  You southern Delawareans can’t gripe any longer that we don’t come down your way.  The Young Bean has truly magnificent coffee, the friendliest service ever, and the kindest regulars in the state.  Come on down and say hello… it’s a great way to unwind after a long workweek, and a really pretty drive, too!  They have comfy chairs.  You like comfy chairs.  There’s no cover charge… but you may be enticed by a piece of BACON CAKE.  It’s amazing.

NEWS:

We’re still in the studio…
We’ve had a few more sessions with the way-cool Ray Gagliardino as mix the tracks we’ve recorded at Studio 825 We are super-stoked with the way it’s coming together… we’ve got a new recording of “Hole in Your Pants,” and full-band versions of “Defender,” “39 Summers” and “Act Surprised.”  We still have some more tunes to record at Knappshack Studios (er, Ji11’s house), which is where we recorded  our self-titled EP, but we’re already talking about an album release date and party this spring. Still no idea what we’re calling this thing, but we promise it won’t be food-related or self-titled.  We’ll keep ya posted. 🙂

A video?  Sweet!
The weekend before the New Year it snowed around these parts (I am pointing to the parts) (not THOSE parts, you slob!), and our pal / local filmmaker Kevin Regan wrangled us to shoot the winter scenes for a video for our song, “An Idiot for Christmas.”  It’s a three-season video, so we had to shoot the snowy scenes right away, because with this whole global warming thing who’d know if we’d get another chance?  It was really fun, and we’re looking forward to the weather warming up so we can get some Beach Blanket Bingo-style shots in the summer and the leafy autumnal shots, too.  We’ll need extras!  So again, we’ll keep you posted.   (You may recognize Kevin Regan as the guy who shot The Joe Trainor Trio‘s sweeeeet video for Keeping Up The Pace. You may also recognize Kevin Regan as the guy who made fun of us for having email blastos that are too long.)

GET INVOLVED!

People ask us all the time how they can help support the band.  Here are eleven (11!) ideas, so take your pick:

  1. Come to a show!  Bring a friend!  Tell the bartender / manager / host(ess) that you’re there to see us.
  2. Like us on Facebook.  Promoters/booking agents gauge a band’s popularity (perhaps unfairly) on how many “likes” a bad has, so it’s time for us to get on the FB horse.  So, if you haven’t done so already, please give us a “Like” and encourage your friends to do so as well.  That’s a big help!  (Please note that there are a few groups/organizations called “Hot Breakfast” on Facebook.  Make sure you’re liking the right one!  Look for our picture, or go to facebook.com/HotBreakfastRocks  don’t forget the “Rocks.”
  3. Follow us on Twitter: We’re @hotbreakfast .
  4. If you know of any venues where you think we’d be welcome, let us know!  Email us here at awesomesauce@hot-breakfast.com. The name and location of the venue is necessary of course, and if you happen to know someone there, their name and contact info would be extra helpful.
  5. Forward this to a friend, or ask them to sign up for the mailing list.
  6. Buy an EP, and play it loudly. 🙂
  7. Share our videos with your friends on YouTube, or record and upload your own when you see us live. We love that. 🙂
  8. When you see a sign in front of a hotel that says “HOT BREAKFAST,” yell “Hot Breakfast!” really loudly and throw your fist in the air.  Bonus points if you take a picture of yourself this and post it on the internetz.  If you post it using Instagram, mention us!  We’re @hotbreakfast on instagram.
  9. Consider hosting a house concert.  We’ll come to your house and play for you and your pals… it’s a blast, and easier and less expensive than you think!  Email us here at awesomesauce@hot-breakfast.com and we’ll walk you through it.
  10. Visit our website to stay up to date on our latest shows.  We’re constantly adding new gigs, and that’s always the best place to see when and where we’re playing. Our calendar is on the right-hand side of our page.
  11. Just say hi after a show. 🙂

AND… THE DISMOUNT.

If you’ve gotten this far, thank you so much for reading. We admire your tenacity! 🙂  If you’d like to be removed from this list, no hard feelings.  Just hit Reply and type Unsubscribe in either the subject or the first line of the body of your email, and our trained robots will handle the rest.

Thank you again, so sincerely, for being a Compadre of ROCK.  We are so grateful to you for your support, your kindness, and your enthusiastic fist-pumps.  We really, really love you.

We hope your 2013 is treating you with the love and happiness your awesome self deserves.

In dorkitude,

Album Update

A few months ago, Ray Gagliardino (who owns/operates Studio 825 in Wilmington) hired us to create and lay down some backing vocals for Brene Wilson’s current studio project. Matt and I have worked as on-call studio musicians before, so we were happy that Ray thought of us when Brene needed some extra voices. As payment, Ray offered to record a few of our acoustic songs, and we asked if we could “upgrade” by paying him to record full-band versions of a few tunes instead. He said yes, so our new album picked up instant momentum.

Here’s what we’re thiiiiinking about for the new album which is still untitled. The list below is not the order, and we’re not even sure we’ll be including all of these songs… this list just shows the songs that are in the running. We welcome your comments– please feel free to reply below (as opposed to emailing).

  • It Only Takes Two to Rock— We’ll likely just remaster the version we already have on the EP because we’re really happy with it.
  • Defender— We’ve re-recorded this at Studio 825, and this time it’s a rockin’ full band arrangement featuring The Joe Trainor Trio’s Jeff Dement and Kevin Niemi on drums and bass respectively, and Joe Testa on electric/lead guitar. Joe Testa plays in Noelle Picara’s band, and also played bass in the JT3 when Kevin broke his finger last year. Joe also plays lead guitar when Joe Trainor wrangles TheCompany to do our big live version of The Wall.)
  • Hole in Your Pants— We’ve re-recorded this at Studio 825, mostly because the version on the EP sounds kinda muffled.
  • You Were a Spider— We’ll re-record this at Knappshack Studios now that Matt has a new guitar! Yay!
  • Major Tom— If we decide to include a cover song, we’ll probably just remaster the EP version of this tune instead of re-recording it. We’re pretty pleased with it.
  • Run — We have the backing tracks mostly done on this; Jill needs to lay down vocals. We’ll do this one at Knappshack Studios.
  • Maybe You Saw it Too— We’ll record this at Knappshack Studios.
  • Act Surprised— This one also is a full-band song with Joe Testa and Kevin Niemi, but it features Ritchie Rubini on drums and percussion. It’s all done; just needs to be mixed. We recorded it at Studio 825.
  • Gravity— The beauty of this song is in its simple arrangement. We’ve got a good take of this song already recorded from Studio 825, but I want to try re-doing the vocals at Knappshack.
  • The Island of Bad Metaphors — We’re trying to arrange this in the most cheeezy 60s psychedelic folky way possible. Think Jethro Tull at the Renaissance Faire. We’ve recorded some the tracks at Knappshack already, and they sound great so far.
  • 39 Summers— This one also is a full-band song with Joe Testa and Kevin Niemi, but it features Ritchie Rubini on drums and percussion. It’s all done; just needs to be mixed. We recorded this at Studio 825.
  • Things— this is a brand-new tune, and we’ll record it at Knappshack.

So that’s the update so far! We’ll keep you posted as things progress.

Your pal,

Ji11

ps: also, stay tuned for more information about upcoming shows, too! In the meantime, the calendar on the right has all the info you’ll need for now.

Be “An Idiot for Christmas” – just like Hot Breakfast! (WTSW’s holiday compilation is here!)

Your favorite acoustic dork-rock power duo (that’d be Hot Breakfast! – whaddya mean, Paul and Storm!?) got a wonderful early present this year.

Our new song, “An Idiot for Christmas,” was selected to be on the 2012 WSTW Hometown Heroes album Comfort, Joy, Love and Snow. We are honored and humbled to be included with so many incredible local musicians.

The album contains 33 songs, all performed by Delaware-area musicians, and it’s yours to download for a minimum contribution of $10. TEN DOLLARS! FOR 33 SONGS! All proceeds from album sales benefit Toys for Tots.

We made a promise to put our song on our site as a free download, so here it is – you can stream or download the song (as an MP3) below. We hope you like it. We really hope this won’t be that song that everyone hates, a la that “Christmas Shoes” song, but we’re not holding our breath, because we like breathing.

But please, please, consider purchasing the wonderful WSTW album. It has songs by some of our favorite performers, including Angela Sheik, RKVC, Sunshine Superman, Em McKeever, and many, many more. Give it a listen – you’re sure to have some new favorites when you’re through.

Until then, you are welcome to stream “An Idiot for Christmas” right here via the widget below, and you can even download it by clicking the teeeeeeny arrow button on the right side of the widget.

Mobile users can click this link here: Hot Breakfast! – An Idiot for Christmas.

We hope you like it!

GIG: Hurricane Sandy Benefit– December 1st, 3 – 10PM, Extreme Pizza in LOMA

We’re gonna be serious here for a moment.

Hurricane/Superstorm Sandy has sorta fallen out of the news now, but so many people still need help. So the super-talented Chad Michael Jervis and his wonderful dad Rick have put together a sweeeeeeet seven-hour concert on Saturday December 1st at Extreme Pizza in the LOMA district of Wilmington, and they’ll be accepting financial donations. Every penny of these donations is going to Covenant House in Atlantic City, which is a homeless shelter for anyone under 18. Covenant House has been housing kids while they and their families rebuild their homes. Great news: LinkedIn will be matching all hurricane-related donations to Covenant House, so your dollars will go much farther.

Please note that only financial donations are being accepted. Please don’t bring food, clothes, supplies, etc.

The all-star lineup and schedule looks like this:

3:00 PM Joe Trainor (he’s playing solo)
4:00 PM Katalyst
4:45 PM Kona Shame
5:30 PM The Acoustic Jam
6:15 PM Dr. Phineas’ Snake Oil String Band
7:00 PM Chad Michael Jervis
8:00 PM The Watermelon Men
8:45 PM Hot Breakfast!

Extreme Pizza is a really terrific place to listen to music. They’ll also be having happy-hour prices and specials all day just for the event. There’s no cover charge– so please come by for a bit, put your donations in the jar, have a bite and a beer or two, and rock out with us!

DEETS:

WHO: A whole buncha bands
WHERE: Extreme Pizza. It’s on the corner of 2nd and Market Street in downtown Wilmington.

GIG: Wilmo Rock Circus: Saturday Nov 24th, ALL FARKING EVENING

Who’s got four thumbs and will be ROCKING YOUR FACES OFF at the Wilmo Rock Circus 2012? Only Delaware’s PREMIER acoustic dork-rock power duo, that’s who!

(Uh, that’s us.)

Tickets are on sale now folks, and there’s no better place to enjoy a 20+ course ALL ROCK BUFFET than the Wilmo Rock Circus. It’s all the rock you can eat for $15, and we’ll be playing several sets throughout the evening because the Wilmo Rock Circus’ dork-rock needs are HIGH, and we live to serve.

All ages, all awesome. Get yer tickets! Get ’em while they’re hot!

This is a really cool pop-up festival that is reinforcing Wilmington’s status as a great and supportive indie-music town. All bands (up & coming bands and bigger regional bands like Lovebettie) get 30-minute sets, so in just a few hours you can get a sampling of the east coast’s rockin’est offerings; and with two stages pumping at once, you always have a choice around who you go hear. SWEET!

Because of our status as Delaware’s PREMIER acoustic dork-rock power duo (and, OK, probably because we don’t take up much space), our 30-minute set will be split up into three 10-minute groupings and also simulcast throughout the Queen (really!) for MAXIMUM BREAKFAST SATURATION.

If you’re a Facebook-type person, you might wanna take a moment to:

Free Halloween download! (The Cowboy Outlaw)

OK, so get this.

We wanted to record a creepy song for Halloween and present it as a free download because we love you. We chose “The Cowboy Outlaw” by Brian Dewan because Jill is totally obsessed with him, and he also wrote “Wastepaper Basket Fire” which you’ve probably heard us cover if you’ve seen us live. He also created the interior album artwork for “In The Aeroplane Over the Sea” by Neutral Milk Hotel, if that means anything to you. (It’s one of our favorite albums of all time, no exaggeration.)

So Hurricane Sandy rolled in and made the power at Knappshack Studios all wonky, so we recorded and mixed/mastered it in a rush so we could get it to you before the electricity cut out. We even made a video of us recording it, but YouTube is doing site maintenance right now, so we can’t upload it. (It’s not that exciting anyway, really.)

In order for us to provide our version of this song as a digital download, we had to secure the rights to the song, just like we did for Kiss Off and Major Tom. Once we got that done, all we had left to do was upload it to this here website, write this blog post, and get the word out.

Ji11 was feeling benevolent so she copied/pasted the lyrics below for you, and while she did that, she had Googled to see if Brian Dewan had a video for the song. But instead of finding a video, she saw a Snopes article that mentioned the song. APPARENTLY IT IS BASED ON A TRUE STORY. How cool is that?!? We had no idea. Which makes the song even spookier. Yay!

So… here’s the song, and here are the lyrics below it. Enjoy! And have a happy and safe Halloween.

The Cowboy Outlaw
by Brian Dewan
From his (freakin’ amazing) album Tells the Story

Gather ’round my children, and I’ll tell a tale of woe
About a famous cowboy outlaw who lived a hundred years ago.
Today his soul at last is resting peacefully in hell
Though many years have passed away since through the gallows-trap he fell.

He was sitting propped up in a chair just after he was hanged
And they photographed his body as a distant churchbell rang.
A circus man was waiting with fifty dollars in his coat
And he bought the cowboy outlaw so he could have him in his show.

And very soon he was embalmed and toured from town to town
People paid to see the outlaw that they’d heard so much about
He stood before them with a pistol against a painted scene
The greatest cowboy outlaw that the world had ever seen

But in time he was forgotten and no one knew his name
And when he began to fall apart they took his booth away
They painted him with varnish and put a crown upon his head
Come and see the king of Egypt said the sign out front instead

And then one year the circus closed, the tents were packed away
And he was sold to an amusement park on Massachusetts Bay
He was sold for next to nothing and they packed him in the van
They thought they’d bought a dummy but they’d really bought a man.

He was sprayed a special color to help him look a fright
And they hung him from a gallows ‘neath an ultra-violet light
He hung there in a spookhouse for many, many years
As youthful faces passed him by in tiny railroad cars

Until one fine and fateful day in 1976
He fell down from the gallows when the hangman’s noose unhitched
His arm broke at the shoulder as he clattered to the floor
And the man who went to fix him was stunned by what he saw

And the teenage boys did holler, and the teenage girls did faint
When they saw the bone protruding from the varnish and the paint
A coroner came to serve him and ran a slew of tests
they found out who he was, in time, and laid his soul to rest

A hundred years have come and gone since he spoke his final words
I’m not afraid to die and leave behind this rotten world
So go and pull the lever hangman, now my race on Earth is run
And he thought his life was ended but it had only just begun

TONIGHT (10/21) from 8-10PM: We’ll be on the radio: 93.7 WSTW Hometown Heroes!

Super-quick:

Tonight (Sunday, October 21) from 8-10pm, we will be an in-studio on-air guest on WSTW’s Hometown Heroes along with our musical crush Todd Chappelle and funny-chick Shari Short.

WSTW is 93.7 on your FM dial for those of you in the DE listening area. If you’re out of radio range, you can listen live online (click this link for their online radio player), too.

You can also send us questions via text, and we’ll answer them on air– listen to the show for details. (Though if anyone asks us a breakfast-related question (“Are you serving pancakes?”) we will make fun of you for being horribly unoriginal.)

Or if you’re busy tonight (we understand!), you can listen to the archived show via podcast by clicking here. It usually takes a day for the show to get posted online, so if you don’t see it tomorrow, give it a few more hours.

GIG: COMEDY ROCKS! 10/25 at 7:30pm, World Cafe Live at the Queen

The fine folks at Gable Music Ventures approached us at an open mic night a few months back, and suggested we once again join forces with musical funnyman Todd Chappelle and a standup comedian for a show at The Queen. We jumped on board, and were soon told that the lovely and talented stand-up comedian Ms. Shari Short would be our emcee for the evening. Shari is farking hilarious– we had a private performance the other night and just fell in love.

The show is scheduled for Thursday, October 25th, and it’s at 7:30pm. (Yes, really! Midweek shows start earlier sometimes, and this is one of those times.)

Todd will sing his signature funny songs, we’ll be leaning on our dorkier material (and we’ve got a new song to debut!), and Shari will perform stand-up between our sets. And you will laugh. And eat. And drink. And drink some more… which will make you laugh some more.

And you will also wish Brian a happy birthday, since he is the world’s first Cool Little Brother (CLBs are official fans of Hot Breakfast!) and he pulls rank.

DEETS:

WHO: Hot Breakfast!, Todd Chappelle, and Shari Short doing things to make you snicker

Post-gig depression…

Hey all–

We are just beside ourselves from how amazing this weekend was. Between the Joe Trainor Trio CD release party at World Cafe Live at the Queen on Friday night to the super-secret show in Arden last night… seriously, we’re having some serious post-gig depression here. Both shows were packed to the gills, the crowds were so enthusiastic and giving us TONS of energy back… it’s times like these that make us so, so, so grateful that we get to do what we do.

A billion thank-yous to everyone who supported all of the amazing events of this weekend, in body and spirit. We really felt the love and are so incredibly appreciative. I don’t have the vocabulary to describe how we’re feeling; but the words “extreme gratitude,” “humbled,” and “rocktastic” are coming to mind.

The incredible Joe del Tufo took photos from last night’s super-secret show in Arden, where we opened for Kate Miller-Heidke. (The super-secret show is no longer super-secret– though it was a private, invite-only concert and not open to the public at all.) Kate is currently touring with Ben Folds Five, and she also toured with Ben back when he was touring solo, too… and Kate and Ben Folds Five are playing a their big Philly show tonight at the Tower Theater– we’ll see you there!

Here are links to the photos:

Thanks again, everyone. 🙂

GIG: October 6th: Top secret show that we can’t advertise…

Yes yes, we blogged about this top-secret gig before, but I’m really excited about it, so I needed to talk about it more… and also bring the new folks up to speed in case they haven’t scrolled back far enough in the blog to hear the story.

So, we’re in this quandary.

We’ve been asked to open up for one of our favorite artists ever… and this artist is pretty dang famous.
But this is, contractually, a 100% non-advertised gig for the artist we’re opening for, and therefore, us as well.

So we’re not allowed to tell you about it.

And we were only given a few tickets for it since it’s a semi-private affair.
I mean, it’s being held at a public place, but you can only buy tickets if you know about the show.

But we’re not allowed to tell you about the show because it’s private.

BUT WE REALLY WANT TO TELL YOU ABOUT IT because it is such a GIANT HONOR to open for this artist!

Yes, we are intentionally being ambiguous about this artist’s gender. And we’re not being entire truthful by using the word “artist” because that sort of implies that it is only one person. But you get the idea.

We were given a very small number of tickets to sell for this show, and they were all offered to our most loyal Cool Little Brothers and immediately snatched up. So it’s kinda silly us even typing up this blog post here, but we wanted you to know that we’re just really so excited and honored to be playing this gig. So, if you’re in the know, make sure you’re there on time… 8PM. We’ll see you there.

Your pal,

Ji11

GIG: Podcamp East! Woot! Sept 29, 8:30AM in Wilmington, DE

Delware’s most vocal Wilmevangelist, the effervescent Ken Grant, has once again invited us to play an incredible show for amazing people at an ungodly hour of the day for rockstars. (It may sound like we’re complaining, but we’re not.)

This Saturday, September 29th, is Day 1 of PodCamp East, a 2-day social-media and online entrepreneurship conference happening right here in our small but mighty state of Delaware. PodCamps have been happening around the world since 2006 when there were just over 10,000 people using Twitter (now there are over 400 million– crikey!), and this year PodCamp Boston, PodCamp New Hampshire, PodCamp Philly, and PodCamp Delaware have joined forces and chose Wilmington as this year’s home. Pretty sweeeeeet.

And best of all– Ken Grant asked Hot Breakfast! to be the official emissary of dork-rock to the attendees. We’ll be kicking off Day 1 with about 30 minutes of dork-rock starting around 8:30am, and playing another set sometime before lunch, too. We’ll just basically play when Ken points at us.

You can still attend PodCamp East, but don’t do it just on our account! It’s only $20 for two full days of speakers, content, presentations, food, socializing and good timez. Also: Ignite Wilmington 7 is that night, too! (But we’re also playing at Rod Kim and Vince Cirino’s Very Public Birthday Bash at World Cafe Live at the Queen, so we’ll be there… and we hope you’ll join us there… but we won’t blame you if you go to Ignite Wilmington, either. Ji11 once presented at Ignite, so she knows how cool it is. No hard feelings. It’s cool to spread the love.

For more information about PodCamp East, go to their website. We’re not gonna recreate the wheel here.

Gig: Sat September 1st, 11:15am, at the Arden Fair!

OK, I admit it, I’ve been attending Burning Man pretty much every year since 2004; I really love it. Last year (2011) was Matt’s first time and he loved it too, especially when we got to play a nice set at The Lost Penguin on Burn Day. It was incredible!

One thing we don’t like about attending Burning Man each year is missing the Arden Fair, which is a wonderful music/arts festival in Arden, DE that always coincides with Burning Man week. But since we’re staying home this year, we didn’t have to turn down the Arden Fair people when we were asked to play. Yaaay!

We asked for an early slot because we have a wedding to attend (and play a song for!) later that afternoon, so come visit us when we play from 11:15-11:45am.

Anyway, the nice folks who run the event have set up a helpful website with all the pertinent info, so I’m not going to reinvent the wheel here. Instead, I’ll just be lazy and point you to the source of the best info: The Arden Fair website. Please take a moment to read it– they’re asking everyone to use the shuttle bus instead of parking in Arden.

As of right now, the weather looks like it will be absolutely gorgeous.

We hope to see you there!

SECRET GIG is secret (October 6, 2012, 8pm)

If you’re on our mailing list, you probably saw we had some bits there in fine print about a top-secret show that we weren’t allowed to announce, even if we got the gig. Well… guess what… WE GOT THE GIG! Wheeeeeeeeee!

But it’s kind of a mixed blessing– it’s a really big deal for us, but it’s strange because nobody (not even the promoter) is allowed to advertise it. It’s a secret-invite-only thing, and there are very few tickets available because of the size of this venue.

So here’s what we can tell you:

On Saturday, October 6th, a Rather Famous Person is doing a private concert for a private event at an intimate venue in Arden, DE. This show is purposely not being advertised. The promoter asked us to be the opener for this Rather Famous Person and his/her Band, but we had to get The Rather Famous Person’s approval first. We were originally told that this Rather Famous Person didn’t want a female-fronted band opening for him/her, so we figured we’d be out of the running, but I guess they changed their mind, so we’re on!

The thing is, we can’t tell you who this Rather Famous Person is. We’re not allowed to advertise the show in any way that Google could ever get a hold of… so no Facebook, no Twitter, no blogging, nothing… not even after the show has passed. We are allowed to invite people via email and phone only, and we have to get the invitees to swear that they will not mention it online.

So it’s kinda like winning a medal but not being able to tell anyone about it. But that’s OK… some things you do for the experience and not for the glory.

If you’d like to get an invite to this show, email us and tell us why you’d like to come. We’ve got a few tickets left, and it’s a first-come, first-served kind of thing. Tickets are $20. Yes, we realize you’re considering paying $20 to see us play a 40-minute opening set and then sitting through a concert by a person you may actually hate passionately (very doubtful), but you’re the gamblin’ type, we can tell.

We should also mention that we are thoroughly in love with this Rather Famous Person and have been for a few years, and we would be attending this show even if we weren’t opening. We have their albums and they are wonderful. You will *not* be disappointed.

(And for those of you keeping track… yes, we copied the contents of our recent mailing-list newsletter to a blog entry, but the promoter asked us to remove the fine print because he feared it gave away too much info. So if you’re looking for that fine print in the online version of the newsletter, it’s gone.)

GIG DEETS:

WHEN: Saturday, October 6, 2012, 8pm.
WHAT: Hot Breakfast! plays a 40-minute opening set for A Rather Famous Person in a Very Intimate Venue. If you email us requesting a ticket, we’ll tell you who the Rather Famous Person is, but you will be sworn to secrecy.
WHERE: The Buzz, Arden DE
TICKETS: $20. If you want to attend, you need to email us, and then we’ll put you in touch with the promoter who will get payment from you. It’s very secret.
PARKING: There’s a parking lot, and also street parking.
FOOD: No food. There may be beverages… not sure.

Anyway, we’d love for you to attend. We’re only advertising this show stealthily through this blog and by pointing people to the blog. You’ve gotta be a fan to attend.

We’d love to see you!

Your pals,

Ji11 and Suburban Legend

Ass-kicking Gigs Benefit Uncategorized

Until we find cures, we’ll play benefits

Until we find cures for the various disorders, diseases, and illnesses that affect us and those we love, we will need to raise money to fund research instead. This weekend on August 25th, you have two great opportunities to support two very worthy causes:

1) If rockin’ out on a swanky, sunny marina deck with a mojito is your style, please come see us at the 2nd Annual Music Extravaganza to support the Delaware MS Society. Hot Breakfast plays at 7:00, and The Joe Trainor Trio takes the stage immediately after. Raffles, dinner/drink specials, and a starry night on the deck can be yours!
Here’s a link to the event on Facebook where you can find directions, ticket info, and details: http://www.facebook.com/events/383382658357012/
And here’s a link on our website here, where you can read our blatherings about the event: http://hot-breakfast.com/gig-saturday-august-25th-12-hours-of-music-to-benefit-ms-research/

BUT!

2) If talented theater folks belting out Broadway tunes is more your bag, head over to the Wilmington Drama League to support Songs in the Key of Cure, which benefits childhood cancer research and the Four Diamonds Fund. Hot Breakfast! won’t be playing at that one obviously, since we haven’t invented cloning or teleportation technology yet… but the lineup for that night is stacked with some of the biggest and best voices in the region. You won’t be disappointed.

We hope you’ll spend your Saturday at one of these two fantastic and important events. 🙂
