GIG: Friday, October 5, Joe Trainor Trio CD Release Party at the Queen

As our Cool Little Brothers and Sisters know, we’re big, big fans of our friends the Joe Trainor Trio. We played some of our first gigs with the hard-rockin’ piano-based trio, and to this day we seldom pass up a chance to see ’em play live.

But it’s not just about music. Joe Trainor, Kevin Niemi, and Jeff Dement happen to be three of our favorite people. We dine with ’em, we play with ’em, we hang and talk and laugh with ’em, and sometimes we’re even fortunate enough to make music with ’em.

Because we like them so much, you might wonder if we’re overhyping their music. You can rest assured this is not the case. The Joe Trainor Trio BRINGS IT, yo. They rock and they rock hard, but they bring melody, great lyrics, and incredible musicianship to their rock. One listen and you’ll be hooked.

This is why we’re proud to be opening for their CD release party on Friday, October 5th at World Cafe Live at the Queen on 5th and Market Street, Wilmington, DE, at 8:00. This’ll be your first chance to hear the new JT3 album, Twelve Stories, in its entirety and purchase your copy.

But before that happens – HOT BREAKFAST! will be rocking the house!! (Hey, it ain’t all about Trainor. I mean, they’re good and all, but c’mon.) We love playing at the Queen (we’re there a lot this fall!), and we can’t wait to melt some faces before Joe and the boys take the stage.

So be sure to be there by 8:00 to hear Hot Breakfast! Actually, we really recommend getting there early – say, 7:00 – and ordering some food. Particularly the eggplant fries, because Holy Cow, the eggplant fries.

Reservations are strongly recommended for this show. You can order your tickets online by clicking here, or you can call the Queen at (302) 994-1400.

The Joe Trainor Trio and Hot Breakfast! – melting faces together since…well…for quite a while now.

Love n’ ice cream sandwiches,

GIG: October 6th: Top secret show that we can’t advertise…

Yes yes, we blogged about this top-secret gig before, but I’m really excited about it, so I needed to talk about it more… and also bring the new folks up to speed in case they haven’t scrolled back far enough in the blog to hear the story.

So, we’re in this quandary.

We’ve been asked to open up for one of our favorite artists ever… and this artist is pretty dang famous.
But this is, contractually, a 100% non-advertised gig for the artist we’re opening for, and therefore, us as well.

So we’re not allowed to tell you about it.

And we were only given a few tickets for it since it’s a semi-private affair.
I mean, it’s being held at a public place, but you can only buy tickets if you know about the show.

But we’re not allowed to tell you about the show because it’s private.

BUT WE REALLY WANT TO TELL YOU ABOUT IT because it is such a GIANT HONOR to open for this artist!

Yes, we are intentionally being ambiguous about this artist’s gender. And we’re not being entire truthful by using the word “artist” because that sort of implies that it is only one person. But you get the idea.

We were given a very small number of tickets to sell for this show, and they were all offered to our most loyal Cool Little Brothers and immediately snatched up. So it’s kinda silly us even typing up this blog post here, but we wanted you to know that we’re just really so excited and honored to be playing this gig. So, if you’re in the know, make sure you’re there on time… 8PM. We’ll see you there.

Your pal,

Ji11

GIG: Saturday, Sep. 29, 7 PM: Rod Kim’s Birthday Celebration at the Queen

One of the best things about being Hot Breakfast! is that we get to meet and play with wonderful people.

From here to Arizona, we’ve met so many great musicians, some famous, most just happy to have a gig or two and money to make a homemade album. We’re proud to count Rod Kim among our talented new friends.

So we were thrilled when Rod asked us to join him at his birthday celebration! It starts at 7:00 on Saturday, September 29 at World Cafe Live at the Queen on 5th and Market Streets in Wilmington.

We’re not sure exactly when we’ll play, but we’ll be trading acoustic sets along with our good friend Rachel Schain and songwriter Jake Wilder Chapman. And then, Rod Kim and Vince Cirino will rock the house, followed by headliner Katie Dill, who happens to be half of the awesome trip-hop chillwave duo Mean Lady.

Those of you who’ve been to the Queen know it’s a great venue – the food’s wonderful, the bar’s bountiful, and the stage is great. We’re always happy to play there, and we’re thrilled for the opportunity to join some incredibly talented friends while we make new ones. Tickets are only $5, but reservations (for the eating of the food!) are recommended.

So please come on out and join us in wishing Rod Kim a rockin’ birthday! We’ll be the acoustic dork-rock power duo in awe of the awesomeness surrounding us.

With love,
Matt (The Suburban Legend)

GIG: Podcamp East! Woot! Sept 29, 8:30AM in Wilmington, DE

Delware’s most vocal Wilmevangelist, the effervescent Ken Grant, has once again invited us to play an incredible show for amazing people at an ungodly hour of the day for rockstars. (It may sound like we’re complaining, but we’re not.)

This Saturday, September 29th, is Day 1 of PodCamp East, a 2-day social-media and online entrepreneurship conference happening right here in our small but mighty state of Delaware. PodCamps have been happening around the world since 2006 when there were just over 10,000 people using Twitter (now there are over 400 million– crikey!), and this year PodCamp Boston, PodCamp New Hampshire, PodCamp Philly, and PodCamp Delaware have joined forces and chose Wilmington as this year’s home. Pretty sweeeeeet.

And best of all– Ken Grant asked Hot Breakfast! to be the official emissary of dork-rock to the attendees. We’ll be kicking off Day 1 with about 30 minutes of dork-rock starting around 8:30am, and playing another set sometime before lunch, too. We’ll just basically play when Ken points at us.

You can still attend PodCamp East, but don’t do it just on our account! It’s only $20 for two full days of speakers, content, presentations, food, socializing and good timez. Also: Ignite Wilmington 7 is that night, too! (But we’re also playing at Rod Kim and Vince Cirino’s Very Public Birthday Bash at World Cafe Live at the Queen, so we’ll be there… and we hope you’ll join us there… but we won’t blame you if you go to Ignite Wilmington, either. Ji11 once presented at Ignite, so she knows how cool it is. No hard feelings. It’s cool to spread the love.

For more information about PodCamp East, go to their website. We’re not gonna recreate the wheel here.

Ji11

Gigs: Sep. 23 at Fergie’s Pub (Philly), Sep. 24 at Delaware History Museum (Wilmington)

Hey there, Cool Little Brothers and Sisters!

We’ve got a couple open-to-the-public gigs coming up this weekend, and we wanted to let you know all about ’em.

First, on Sunday, September 23rd, we’ll be playing at Fergie’s Pub in Philadelphia. But before you read on, please note that this is no ordinary gig: unless you’re a die-hard theater geek/playwright stalker, this might not be the gig for you. Just being honest. We will be background music.

Here’s the deal: this is a fundraiser for the PDC and will feature live music by Hot Breakfast! and other artists, a silent auction, drinks, complimentary finger foods, guest bartenders, and most importantly…a chance to enjoy a Q & A with Nicky Silver, fresh off from a Broadway run of his hit play “The Lyons.”

The PDC is Philly’s premiere organization for new play development, so it makes sense that Nicky, originally from the Philadelphia area, should return for a visit!

In addition to “The Lyons”, Nicky Silver has written great plays like “The Food Chain”, “Pterodactyls”, “The Eros Trilogy”, “Fat Men in Skirts”, and many others. His awards include the Oppenheimer, Helen Hayes Award, and the Kesselring. He has also been nominated for other awards including the Outer Critic’s Circle, Drama Desk, and Drama-Logue Award.

To buy tickets online, please click here.

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL!!

On Monday, September 24, your favorite acoustic dork-rock power duo from Delaware will open up an evening of great music to celebrate Wilmington! We play at the Arts TastIN’ at the Delaware History Museum (505 Market Street) at 6:30. We’re only playing for 20 minutes or so, but there are lots of neat acts that follow us, including our friend Jessica Graae and the cast of City Theater Company’s upcoming musical Bat Boy. Tickets are only $5.

Stay tuned, friends. We’ve got some great stuff coming up on the horizon.

Yours in ROCK,
Matt (The Suburban Legend)

Gig: Friday, September 14 at The Young Bean in Clayton, Delaware

Hot Breakfast! spends an awful lot of time hanging out up north…that is, if Wilmington and Philadelphia count as “north” to you. Sometimes we venture as far south as Bear, but that’s about it. We admit it: we’ve been missing out.

We plan to remedy that with two full sets at The Young Bean, a funky little coffeehouse in Clayton, Delaware, south of Middletown but north of Dover. And we cannot wait.

Why? Well, because we’re really excited to go somewhere new, for one. The Young Bean asked us to play and we’re thrilled they did – they’ve got a great tradition of live music, and we look forward to melting some new faces. We go on at 6:30 on Friday, September 14 and play through 9:00. No cover!

But mostly, we’re going because of the menu. Here, see for yourself. We’ll wait.

Back? Great. HOW GOOD DOES THAT LOOK? The coffees? The foods? Paninis? Hot chocolates? Bacon Cake? Once again…freakin’ Bacon Cake?

So please come on down (or up!) to The Young Bean on September 14. We’ll be the dork-rock power duo scarfing down bacon cakes in-between songs.

Yours,
Matt
